I don't mind the new design & format, but find the actual search results to be unusable & inaccurate.
I used to be able to rely on this tool for good synonyms and suggestions but, unfortunately, the update has been destructive to the quality of the search results. I can find a few good results, but the overall quality is certainly lacking.
In the past, I really respected and enjoyed using this site. Please reconsider the changes.5 votes
Please note that you may still access previous version via classicthesaurus.com
The new version didn’t have any major changes in term listings. The list search wasn’t developed to the same complexity and is under work right now by one of the developer.
We would greatly appreciate if you could advise any issues with search results by providing some examples.
Do a sidebar ad, or any ad which doesn't prevent the key features of the site from being used.1 vote
Could you please send the screenshot of misbehaving ad to email@example.com?
...allow word/phrase suggestions from users.
Even if not strictly accurate (in fact, maybe esp so!) some might prove useful to some readers.
And AFAICT, more time-spent-on-pages = higher rankings in search engines, a win-win!1 vote
Desktop users are able to suggest new terms to the lists. For mobile and apps this will be added soon.
previous web site is user friendly....please back to the previous user interface2 votes
Months back you were not pagenating and now you've reverted to old scripting. It was better when scrolling would generate new output. Having to click on the next page is lame.4 votes
Some users have experienced issues with infinite scroll, hence we had to roll-out a quick fix with pagination.
Currently, you have to hover the mouse over the word on the dropdown to have the quick view of this words synonyms. By automatically opening the quick view of the first word (which is most of the times the preferred result) makes the search lighting fast and real time, without the need to grab the mouse or press the "down" arrow.4 votes
Have an option for 200 words per page. Flicking over the short 20-word pages to find one of 3,000 words is just daft!1 vote
The number of items per page has been changed from 15 to 50.
Please note that you can also use part of speech and topic filters to narrow down your word hunt.
For www.powerthesaurus.org you are missing the pronunciation sound file.1 vote
The pronunciation functionality is planned for modern browsers.
The Noun and Verb filters should automatically include expressions, idioms and phrases (and phrasal verbs). I shouldn't have to click and review the list 4 times to cover all the possible verb or noun synonyms. If necessary, you could add "one-word noun" and "one-word verb" filters. Another option is to allow more than one filter at a time.4 votes
When I search a word I often come across repetitions of the same synonym, which adds to my search time. I think it would just streamline the process to remove repetitions from a given search. That said, this is by far the best thesaurus I've every come across and I love it!1 vote
Thank you for your feedback! Unfortunately, we are not able to replicate the issue on both website versions. Could you please provide more details/steps that show the problem with repetitions in search log? Thank you!
Even correct word choices can be too vanilla for writers!6 votes
We have asked editorial team to dedicated more time for slang terms whenever they review and updated pages. They use ‘slang’ topic for these. Also the team is working on making sure all English idioms and popular phrases have been added.
A "new" definition would have to be reviewed to make sure it's not bogus or just very uncommon.6 votes
We do have this functionality in plans. However at this stage we are focused on thesaurus entries and making sure that we deliver this part right.
The page number bar takes up too much space on small screens and doesn't seem to add much utility. Also, having the options all displayed across the top like in old version seems more user-friendly than compacting them into click-to-expand menus.1 vote
Thank you for your very appreciated feedback about the new version!
We have already identified these issues based on user feedback and navigation patterns. They have addressed in another sub-version that will be launched live today with small portion of traffic directed to it. It has a large number of updates including better content auto-load, lighter colour scheme, less controls shown in lists, no item cards in lists, popular lists are always shown side menu, new lists like similar, sound like, rhymes and many other improvements.
Its so fantastic to have a no nonsense site aimed at power users.
I have since installed the app and Chrome extensions and will be promoting to my friends!6 votes
Thank you for your feedback and for being our user!
For Chrome extension: Have a way to view search history4 votes
Like Windows chrome plugin, if we select any word in mobile automatically it should be show synonyms and antonyms of the selected word.
If i am reading a PDF, i got a new word which i don't know. I have to close the tab and go to power app and has to find. I want, I will select the unknown word in PDF itself and a Pop-Up of Power Thesaurus give complete detail of the particular word like synonyms, antonyms and an example.2 votes
Please note that “slang” is used in topics and can be used to filter the list. We have advised editorial team to use it more often when appropriate.
As it stands users need to follow a link to view word definitions. It'd be nice if the most common definition of a word could be placed on the same page as the synonyms.4 votes
The new version will have the most relevant definition and sample usage for each term shown within the list.
Mixing them up together makes it hard to find the word you need.5 votes
Which application do you refer to?
Web and apps have part of speech filters. The extension doesn’t have it simply because we didn’t want to make too complicated for users.
